New Format
This year we saw the introduction of a new format to the Regatta accepted by Patrol Leaders and Scouters of all three Sea Scout Groups in Pretoria. Each Troop enters a composite patrol consisting of ten members, four Open, four Under 15 and 2 Under 13 members.
The advantages of this format allow this event to be more competitive and prestigious. The administration is greatly reduced and more time is available to run events; fewer chaps are idle for extended periods.
The greatest disadvantage of this format is that it is less participate, which means less scouts are actually on the regatta and some chaps are left out even though they maybe be quite talented. This issue will be addressed by adding new events, in sailing rowing and canoeing, to the Sea Scouts annual calendar. The format of these is still uncertain, but will be open to all scouts and will in all probability be competitive.
We would like to have your comments on the regatta and the format. Please e-mail Vernon Foster.
